It bolts onto the end of the lathe bed and allows you to swing your lathe tailstock out of the way.

It gives you more space when not using the tailstock and it means you don't have to lift a heavy lump of cast iron on and off your lathe. With the tailstock neatly out of the way there is no chance you might hit your elbow on it.

With the optional bed extension mounted in the lower position, it allows you to turn at the end of my lathe without removing the tailstock. Just slide the tailstock onto the swing away, lock it on, and swing the tailstock out of harm's way. This is a well-built, problem-solving time-saver.
